The Knicks ended the year off as a seventh seed. Finishing with a 36-30 record (with the season being reduced to 66 games), the team was set to play the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs. The Heat, backed behind the big three of the newly acquired LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, and with aspiring talent of Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier, and Norris Cole, the team always had problems with the franchise. Lead by veteran leadership of Udonis Haslem, and coming off a finals loss to the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, the team had a grudge to win this year. They beat the Knicks in the first round 4-1. Athough the Knicks had their leading scoring, Carmelo Anthony, former Defensive Player of the Year of Tyson Chandler, and an offensive powerhouse of Amar'e Stoudemire, it was not enough to overcome the Miami big three. The Knicks, although having their reoccurring struggles in the playoffs, would still start each year with higher hopes, and intentions.
