The Knicks finished off the 2009-10 season with a record of 29-53. With the roster they had, on paper, it was no surprise. Having the odds with a predicted below-500 record coming into the year, and with any little chance to make the playoffs, the preaseason predictions came true. Behind the teams stars of David Lee, young and undeveloped players such as Danilo Gallinari and Nate Robinson, and Wilson Chanlder, the team needed work. Especially coming into the year after losing Jamal Crawford, the team needed change, and after this year, it was clear to make a change. Even though the team had plenty of youth, a lot of moves were in order to make this team better. Although placing 10th in league for PPG average as a team, the defensive side of the ball was an adressable problem (finishing 27th that year). Looking ahead to the future, the organization was ready to take their next step in hopes of more team success.
