The Big Decision

The first step in getting a tattoo is the decision making. This is probably the most important step for many reasons, obviously. As we all know, tattoos are FOREVER, which means you should take this into consideration very seriously. You would never want to look at your tattoo in the future and regret every getting that, also you never would want to become one of the many viral, horrible tattoos that we all see on social media. There are many simple things you can do to make sure you are 100% ready to get a tattoo you won't regret! One thing is think of an idea or design and give that idea some time. This can help in many ways as well because if you give it time then realize you are not all about the tattoo after 2 weeks, then you know not to get the tattoo. But giving the idea some time also will help you look at the idea/design over and over again and see ways that you can even improve the design to make it look better. Let's say you know exactly what you want, you will never regret this decision, your ready for the tattoo! Now the next step is finding a shop and tattoo artist you can trust will fulfill what you want. Find a shop that has a good reputation, also do not look for the cheapest tattoo parlor you can find. There is a saying that says You Get What You Pay For, dealing with tattoos. After you think you have found a shop worth going to, go check out the shop in person, see what the atmosphere is like and talk to a tattoo artist. Explain what you would like done and they can help you with advice or have questions about how you envision the design in your head. Once you find a tattoo artist that you know can do the tattoo you are imagining and once you are 100% ready for the tattoo, its time to set a date and get it done!

Decision Made

Finally you have made your decision on the tattoo you want! Now there are a couple more things after you have figured everything out. First things first, DO NOT BE DRUNK when you are going to get the tattoo, my tattoo artists all have asked me if I have drank alcohol in the past 12 hours. The alcohol makes the skin/body reject the ink and makes a mess for the person receiving it and the artist. Second make sure you eat something before you get the tattoo. This was a big one for me because I pass out easily but if you are getting a tattoo for the first time you could get nervous and not want to eat before. BUT YOU SHOULD! No one wants you to pass out during the tattoo so be smart and getting something into your stomach. Third don't come in with a big crew, tattoo artists don't like that very much and also do not like being asked a million questions from a group of people while their trying to focus on making your tattoo perfect. Fourth, just accept that it will hurt. Depending on where you get the tattoo, it will not hurt as bad as you think. My first tattoo was on my back and I barely felt a think, my third tattoo was on my ribs and I wanted to cry the entire time. Fifth is a very important one, TIP. I understand that tattoos are very expensive and you don't think you need to but yes, you do. Tip your tattoo artist, he worked very hard and spent a lot of time to help give you exactly what you want. They deserve a tip. Last but not least, you need to make sure you follow the after care instructions you receive. Everyone's skin reacts differently to tattoos, many of my friends skin heals quick without any care. My tattoos itch and peel very badly so I need to use the ointment multiple times a day. Ask questions to your tattoo artist to see how to take care of the tattoo so you do not mess it up!
