What is Super Smash Bros. Melee?

Super smash bros melee, abreviated to SSBM, is a platform fighting game released in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube,the second game in a five game series, some considering it to be the best in the series. It is one of the best selling video games on one of the worst selling nintendo consoles. For some it is the reason they bought a GameCube. Super Smash Bros. Melee has sold seven million copies since its release in 2001. This may seem low compared to some huge budget games, but considering the GameCube's launch (launched next to the more powerful Playstation 2 and Xbox) it did quite well for the t ime. Along with the game being masssively popular among nintendo fans, it would spark a long competitive history. Due to the rushed development of the game, players would discover exploits that would bring the skill ceiling up considerably.

Characters and Roster

The roster is one of the most important parts of the Smash Bros. franchise. The base idea for the game was to have a fighting game that included characters from different nintendo games. The roster includes characters that most people recognize like Mario and Donkey Kong, it also includes some characters few will recognize like Ness, Fox, and Falco. When a new copy of the game is booted up with an empty memory card, not all characters are playable. Some have to be unlocked by completing challenges or finishing a certain number of games.
