Leonardo Da Vinci and Jules Vern are examples of deists.
Deism is a worldview that branches off of theism. Like theism, deism believes in a God. However, "warm" deists believe God created us and an afterlife.
"Cold" deists believe God created us and simply left us be. In deism, God is the prime reality and the world around us is the external reality.
In deism, people are personal but they are a part of the universe. Furthermore, some deists believe in an afterlife, and some do not.
"Warm" deists do; and "cold" deists do not. In deism, human beings can know through reason and rationality. Ethics are objective and the universe reveals what is right.
Essentially, things that promote survival are right and things that don't are wrong. Deists believe history is important but it is still to be determined as to why it is.
I would probably call myself a Christian Deist somewhere in the "lukewarm" area. One objection could be that you can't scientifically prove that God is real.
A response to that would be that there is so much order in this world, there must be, although not necessarily a God, a higher power.
Another objection could be, "How could one believe in a God that left the world as is and why would He do this?" A response would be that He did this to allow man to live in freedom.
